APC Chairman Abducted in Abia State has been released by his kidnappers.
Donatus Nwankpa was reportedly kidnapped together with one of his aides on Monday night on his way to Aba, the commercial hub of the state, few hours to the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the state.
His abductors later released his aide who sustained injury.
His party men had pleaded with his abductors to release him unconditionally, saying he was a good man loved by all in the state.
The state Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Benedict Godson, told our correspondent on Friday that Nwankpa was released unconditionally late on Thursday.
He said no ransom was paid for his release, adding that he was in good health when he was freed.
Godson said, “We thank God for his safe return and we appreciate all those who in one way or the other contributed to his safe return.
“We also want to thank our governorship candidate and other leaders of the party in the state for standing with us since he was kidnapped.”
When contacted, the Commissioner of Police in the state Mr Chris Ezike, confirmed that Nwankpa was released unhurt by his abductors.
Similarly, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State, Hassan Mijinyawa, who was kidnapped on Wednesday, has been released by his abductors after spending four days in captivity.
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Darius Ishaku on Media and Publicity, Mr Bala Dan-Abu, confirmed this to newsmen in Jalingo on Sunday.
Dan-Abu said the CPS was released in the late hours of Saturday and had been reunited with his family.
Mijinyawa was kidnapped on Wednesday along the Bali-Gashaka Road on his way to Gembu.
On whether ransom was paid for his release, Dan-Abu said he was released unconditionally by his abductors.
