A Nigerian woman becomes first African female to own an European football club

A Nigerian woman known as Nneka Ede has become the first African female to own an European club.

The announcement was made in a statement after the Nigerian entrepreneur purchased the football club ‘s house.

Nneka bought the Portuguese club, Lusitano Ginásio Clube, Futebol, SAD.

In June 2020, Lusitano competes in the Campeonato de Portugal, the third tier of Portugal’s football pyramid and Ede acquired ownership of the 108-year-old club.

Her words were :

“I am excited about this opportunity and I hope that this new chapter will deepen the already great sporting relations between Nigeria and Portugal,

continue with the rich history of Lusitano club and provide a pathway for young talent to develop and shine through.”
